Goal of the Year-scoring Georgian signs for Excelsior

Excelsior have strengthened their squad with the signing of 21-year-old Irakli Yegoian. The Georgian midfielder was picked up on a free transfer from Vitesse. Yegoian scored the Goal of the Year in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie last season.

Yegoian previously played in the youth teams of Ajax and FC Twente/Heracles, among others. He was picked up by Vitesse in the summer of 2024. Last season, he scored nine goals and provided five assists in 37 matches. This summer, he played in the European Under-21 Championship with Georgia.

Last season, Yegoianโ€™s bicycle kick against De Graafschap was voted the best goal of the season. โ€œWe are very happy with Irakliโ€™s arrival,โ€ said technical manager Niels van Duinen via the Excelsior club website.

โ€œBecause of his familiar situation at Vitesse, a golden opportunity presented itself. With his creativity and footballing ability, he adds a lot to our squad. He had a fantastic first season at Vitesse and showed what he can do.โ€
