European football to be played at Lotto Park in 2023/2024, but not by Anderlecht

While Anderlecht failed to secure European football for the 2023/2024 season, there will be one team who will be playing continental competitions at Lotto Park. For the second year running, Union St Gilloise will be forced to play their games away from their home stadium. This will involve a short trip across the city of Brussels to play at the stadium of their rivals.

Het Nieuwsblad have reported that Union have agreed with Anderlecht for the use of the stadium for next season, having played their knock-out games in last seasons Europa League there. For the Group Stages they had played at the home of OH Leuven instead. So far, the agreement is in place just for the Europa League qualification rounds, with Union set to play their two-legged affair around the 24th of 31st of August.

Last season, the side had great success in the competition. After qualifying from their group, they beat Union Berlin over two legs before losing to Bayer Leverkusen. The side narrowly missed out on winning the Belgian Pro League title as Antwerp struck late to beat Genk in the final game of the season.
