Eupen sign veteran Icelandic striker Alfreð Finnbogason

Eupen have announced the signing of 34-year-old striker Alfreð Finnbogason. The veteran Icelandic forward has signed a contract until 2025 and joins the Pandas from Danish side Lyngby BK. Eupen have been searching for more options upfront after Bartosz Bialek picked up an injury. The on loan Wolfsburg forward will be out for a number of months. The side are also linked with a move for another veteran Bundesliga forward in 32-year-old Swede Sebastian Andersson. The striker is a free agent after leaving FC Köln at the end of his contract.

Finnbogason’s first move from Iceland was to Belgium in the winter of 2011 when he joined Lokeren. After six goals in 25 games, he moved to Sweden to join Helsingborg. The Icelandic international has since played for SC Heerenveen, Real Sociedad and Olympiacos. In the winter of 2016 he joined FC Augsburg on loan, scoring seven goals in 14 games. The Bavarian side then signed Finnbogason on a permanent deal. In 108 games for the side he scored 32 goals, leaving to join Lynby in March 2022.

Finnbogason scored five goals in 17 games for the Danes, including two goals in four matches so far this season.
