Telstar sensation Youssef El Kachati will remain in the Netherlands after considerable foreign transfer interest. The 25-year-old striker has reached a verbal agreement with NEC Nijmegen and will sign a three-year contract, sources have told ESPN.
In a superb season in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the striker scored 19 goals in 35 for Telstar, while registering a further five goals in six playoff games.
Following interest from at home and abroad, the Moroccan-Dutchman has made his choice. El Kachati has chosen NEC and will therefore still play in the Eredivisie next season. For a long time, it seemed that Hannover 96 or Schalke 04 would take his signature, but the striker will remain in Dutch football.
The 25-year-old from Leiden will succeed Kento Shiogai in Nijmegen, who will move to RB Salzburg in the coming days. At NEC, El Kachati will compete with Koki Ogawa and Bryan Linssen under new trainer Dick Schreuder.
El Kachati played a total of 67 matches for Telstar, in which he scored 31 times and provided nine assists.
