Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has spoken out following their loss to neighbours Manchester City. The former Ajax manager is under pressure as a result of the teams start to the current season. Fabrizio Romano shared Ten Hag’s statement which went as followed.
‘While this has not been the start to the season we all hoped for, I am certain that we have the talent, attitude as a collective to move in the right direction. I continue to believe in these players, I am confident we will improve after a difficult start to the season.’
Manchester United are currently 8th in the Premier League table having won 5 and lost 5, leaving them on 15 points, 11 points off league leaders Tottenham. United have also had a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, currently third in their group after 3 games. The new signings under Ten Hag have not hit the ground running, following Mason Mount’s £55 million move from Chelsea, poor form, a lack of game time, as well as injury has hampered his ability to have the desired impact for the Red Devils. Goalkeeper Andrè Onana has also had a tough start after his move from Inter Milan to replace David De Gea, however Erik ten Hag continues to support and encourage the Cameroonian, knowing the level he is capable of from their time together at Ajax.
Ten Hag finishes his statement by saying ‘I believe that it’s only a matter of time before we are showing our true selves. It will come, I am certain.’ United play Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, a repeat of last years final, before travelling to Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
