Erik ten Haag offers Cody Gakpo transfer update for Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has provided an update for Manchester United fans as the Premier League side look to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window, AD reports.

The former Ajax manager is now looking for a replacement for Ronaldo after his second stint at Old Trafford was cut short following a controversial interview in which he criticised his then-head coach.

One of the players is believed to be high up on the shortlist is Cody Gakpo who has impressed for Netherlands during the World Cup with three goals in Qatar and is the current top scorer in the Eredivisie with nine league goals for PSV Eindhoven too.

“We are doing everything in our power, so I am emphatically looking at every opportunity that arises,” said Ten Hag about the search for an attacker. “I never talk about specific players. They are under contract with other clubs and I respect that, but at the same time we are working in the background to sign the right players.”

Gakpo, 23, is no stranger to transfer speculation to the Premier League with Arsenal and Liverpool also thought to be chasing his signature. In the summer, Southampton were understood to have been close with signing him before it falling through.
