Eredivisie preview | PSV Eindhoven vs Vitesse

The title race in the Eredivisie is hotting up with at least five teams all within contention of becoming league champions including PSV Eindhoven. Despite a poor start to the calendar year, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side are fourth in the league table, level on points with Ajax and five behind leaders Feyenoord.

They could cut that lead to just two points, for at least a day, when they welcome relegation candidates Vitesse to the Philips Stadion – led by former PSV midfielder Philip Cocu. They find themselves 14th and three points ahead of Emmen and Volendam – thanks to four successive league draws – who sit in the play-off and relegation places respectively.

Results in the last five matches in all competitions:

PSV:  L-W-W-L-D-D

Vitesse: W-L-D-D-D-D

Team News

The visitors will be without Olivier Boscagli who has not kicked a ball since suffering a knee injury back in April while new signing and former PSV player Nicolas Isimat-Mirin could make his debut for Vitesse. The 31-year-old defender joined the Eredivisie side from MLS club Sporting Kansas City.

For the hosts, Mauro Junior remains on the treatment table as he continues to recover from his shoulder injury while Xavi Simons looks set to retain his place in the starting line-up after finding himself on the scoresheet against Fortuna Sittard.
