Eredivisie preview | Feyenoord vs NEC Nijmegen

With PSV Eindhoven losing to Emmen earlier this week, Feyenoord have the chance to extend their lead at the top over their title rivals who sit in third.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side had the chance to go top on goal difference if they won by three goals but failed to find the net against Dick Lukkien’s Emmen. Now, Feyenoord coach Arne Slot will be delighted that result went their way after dropping two huge points in a crucial match against title rivals Ajax at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord’s opponents, NEC, find themselves as surprising outsiders for a chance to secure a place in the European play-off spots. Rogier Meijer’s side currently sit 10 points above the relegation zone but five points behind the play-off places. Since losing to PSV back in October, NEC have gone on a six-match unbeaten run including beating Emmen 3-1 at the weekend.

Here’s both teams’ current form in all competitions:

Feyenoord: D-W-D-W-W

NEC: W-D-W-D-W

Team News

Feyenoord will likely rotate after their hard-fought match against Ajax at De Kuip on Sunday. Santiago Gimenez looks likely to start with Javario Dilrosun on the left-wing after both came off the bench at the weekend.

For the visitors, Meijer may well stick with the same starting XI that picked up three points a few days ago with Oussama Tannane out of contention still as he serves the last of his two-match suspension after receiving a red card against Vitesse.
