Eredivisie preview | AZ Alkmaar vs Fortuna Sittard

With PSV Eindhoven closing Feyenoord’s lead to just two points at the top of the Eredivisie, it leaves the title race wide open with AZ Alkmaar still in the mix as they welcome Fortuna Sittard to the AFAS Stadium.

Pascal Jansen’s side sit in third place and have the chance to leapfrog PSV by doing something they failed to do last week – beating Sittard. A win would cut Feyenoord’s lead to just a point ahead of their top-flight clash with Ajax which would certainly add more pressure to that clash.

Results in the last five matches in all competitions:

AZ Alkmaar:  L-W-L-W-D-W

Fortuna Sittard: D-L-L-W-L-D

Maty Ryan is expected to be out for this match, leaving Hobie Verhulst to stay as AZ’s number one choice for now with head coach Jansen set to name the same starting lineup from their win against Heerenveen.

Meanwhile, Sittard will have to deal with no Dogan Erdogan after he was sent off for serious foul play against PSV last weekend. Head coach Velazquez could explore the option of dropping Oguzhan Ozyakup into a deeper role in midfield and look at reinforcing the attack with Umaro Embalo, Tijjani Noslin and Paul Gladon all pushing for a start. Stipe Radic looks set to start again after impressing on his debut.
