Elche interested in Genk’s Nicolás Castro

According to HLN, Elche are looking to bring Nicolás Castro of Genk to Spain. The side are set to sign Castro initially on loan with a purchase option. 22-year-old Castro only joined Genk last summer from Newell’s Old Boys, but has struggled to cement a place in the side. The emergence of Bilal El Khannouss and the signing of Anouar Ait El Hadj in January means that Castro has slipped further down the pecking order.

Before moving to Belgium, Castro played 51 games for Newell’s and scored nine goals, whilst also providing seven assists. At Genk, he only managed to make 26 appearances, mainly off the bench. He failed to score but did provide an assist.

Elche finished last season rock bottom of La Liga with just 25 points and were relegated to the second tier of Spanish football. Castro would be just one of a number of Argentine players who play for the club should he join.
