Edwin van der Sar extends contract with Ajax

Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar has extended his contract with the club, ensuring he’ll remain in his role until 2025 at the least.

Van der Sar first returned to the club he played at in 2012, being named the Director of Marketing. Four years later, the Dutchman became CEO.

His contract was going to end in November 2023, and there was undoubtedly interest from other clubs in him with the 51-year-old often linked with another of his former clubs, Manchester United.

However, it is now certain that he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon with his new contract lasting until the summer of 2025.

“A lot has happened in the last ten years at Ajax,” he said.

“In these years we have grown with the club in many ways. The international recognition has, mostly due to the results of the first team, grown substantially. But there is also an amazing organization behind that success.

“Our goal is to become a structural part of the international top teams. Starting 2024, the design of the European tournaments will change, and we want to compete yearly in the renewed Champions League.

“That journey is not at an end, and I want to keep contributing to that process.”
