Noa Lang’s situation at Napoli has been a hot topic on the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast. The 26-year-old winger has struggled to make his mark and has only played 17 minutes across two league matches so far this season. If Lang doesn’t “survive” this situation, René van der Gijp believes he’ll leave soon.
“I wanted to follow Napoli for Lang, but he’s always on the bench,” Michel van Egmond begins. Van der Gijp then sheds light on the 14-cap Dutch international, addressing the fact that his play style may not be fitting of the reigning Serie A champions. “I don’t think that’s the case with Anis Hadj Moussa as much, but with Lang, of course, it was always: dribble, dribble, and inside.”
“You never really had to cover the outside. Even Arjen Robben occasionally went around the outside. You had Franck Ribéry on the other side, who was also good, mind you. He could go inside and outside. Lang dribbles towards his marker and then goes inside,” Gijp continues.
“It’s obviously different playing against Inter than against the RKC Waalwijk. The RKC player is going backwards, but the Inter player is going forwards and is running into you,” said the TV personality. Van der Gijp thinks Lang will soon leave Napoli if he doesn’t overcome his current situation. “If he doesn’t break through, he’ll be loaned out to Club Brugge or Ajax next year.”
