Double blow for Zulte Waregem as Christian Brüls and Nicolas Rommens suspended for South-West-Flanders derby

Zulte Waregem have been dealt a major blow for their relegation six pointer with rivals Kortrijk as both Christian Brüls and Nicolas Rommens will not be able to feature. Both picked up enough yellow cards to warrant an automatic ban for the next game. This leaves Mbaye Leye desperately short of experienced midfielders, with winter signing Ruud Vormer also out for the foreseeable future with a broken collarbone.

As reported by Voetbalkrant, the young head coach said ‘I am used to fielding a team with absentees or without them, so we will find solutions for the match‘.

Zulte Waregem’s survival chances were dealt a blow before this news as they threw away a winning position against bottom side RFC Seraing at the weekend. With just four minutes to go, Morgan Poaty equalised for Seraing and caused Zulte Waregem to drop a precious two points. After the weekends results the side are three points from safety, but also just four points behind their rivals Kortrijk. Three points for either side on Friday night could have major implications for the losing team for the rest of the season.
