Domenico Tedesco full of praise for young Burnley defender after Serbia clash

As reported by HLN, Belgian head coach Domenico Tedesco was full of praise for young central defender Ameen Al Dakhil. The Burnley youngster, formerly of Sint-Truiden and Standard Liege, played the full 90 minutes in the Red Devils 1-0 friendly win over Serbia.

After the game, Tedesco was keen to highlight how impressed he was by the 21-year-old. The German head coach said ‘You don’t get the feeling that Ameen is such a young defender when you see him at work. In terms of intrinsic speed, he is one of the top defenders in the Premier League’.

Al Dakhil departed the Belgian Pro League to join Vincent Kompany’s Burnley in the winter of 2023. He has made 25 appearances for the Lancashire side, including 10 in the Premier League. Prior to joining Burnley he had been part of the one of the steeliest defences in the Pro League at Sint-Truiden under Bernd Hollerbach, where he made 28 appearances. The victory over Serbia saw him earn his third Red Devils cap. Al Dakhil will be hoping to force himself into the side for next years European championships in Germany.
