Despite victory over Qarabag, Gent face further injury concerns for Club Brugge clash

Like Anderlecht, Gent required penalties to get through to the next round of the Conference League. Gift Orban came off the bench to level the tie in the second half, before Davy Roef’s penalty heroics saw Gent through. Roef has a history of coming up big in penalty shoot-outs, having done the same during last seasons Cup Final against Anderlecht.

However, Gent’s injury list also grew further during last nights game. Bruno Godeau had to leave the pitch during the first half, while Alessio Castro-Montes also left the pitch after the first-half. The latter had been an injury concern going into the game, having not trained on Wednesday to save himself for the game.

Gent’s injury list has been growing over the past few weeks, with Kamil Piatkowski, Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, Darko Lemaijic and Mattis Samoise on the injury list. Head coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck has been forced to call up a number of youth players to fill out the squad. Gent have a huge game against Club Brugge at the weekend, with both sides fighting for a space in the top four.
