Despite strong season, Genk’s Joseph Paintsil set to miss out on Black Stars final World Cup Squad

Ghana will be one of the final nations to announce their 26 man squad for the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Black Stars coach Otto Addo has a press conference scheduled for Monday the 14th of November, where he will then announce the final 26. There are currently four Belgian based players in the 55 man shortlist who have one last chance to impress Addo before Monday.

According to journalist Owuraku Ampofo, in form Genk winger Joseph Paintsil is set to miss out. Paintsil has been named in the 55 man shortlist, however his unavailability of recent international fixtures may go against him. The winger is having his best season in a Genk shirt to date, with six goals and seven assists in just 13 games. The former Tema Youth prospect has been an integral part of Genk’s incredible form, with the side having only lost one game this season.

Other players hoping to make the final 26 plying their trade in Belgium include Club Brugge’s Kamal Sowah, Eupen’s young goalkeeper Abdul Manaf Nurudeen and Gent midfielder Elisha Owusu. Of these three, Sowah has performed the best, especially in the Champions League where he helped Club Brugge qualify for the next round. Owusu has had an injury hit season so far and is only just returning to full fitness, while Nurudeen has seen his starting XI spot taking by former Union Berlin goalkeeper Lennart Moser.

Ghana are set to face Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in Group H.
