Union St Gilloise once again showed they are no pushovers in Europe as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in Germany. Union progress to the next round with 4-3 win on aggregate. Star midfielder Cameron Puertas scored shortly into the second-half to give Union the lead. The Swiss midfielder has been a key force behind the sides success this season.
With 10 minutes left, Dennis Eckert’s wonderful volley from a corner gave Union a 2-0 lead. The 27-year-old, who left Germany back in 2022 to join Union, came off the bench and ultimately scored the winner. The former FC Ingolstadt never played in the Bundesliga during his time in Germany, but now has helped see the Pro League leaders through to the next round of the Europa Conference League.
With time winding down, Eric Ebimbe’s powerful header brought Frankfurt within a goal. Yet Union held on to secure another famous European win. They remain in with a chance of three trophies this season.
