Dender have sacked head coach Hayk Milkon. The side are currently bottom of the Belgian Pro League and look almost certain to face the side that wins the play-offs in the Challenger Pro League. This year the side that finishes bottom of the Pro League gets a second chance at survival with the relegation play-off. Beveren have already been promoted from the second tier, and Dender are hoping that moving on from Milkon will give them a better chance of joining them in the top flight next season.
HLN are reporting that the side are looking to bring in Yannick Ferrera as head coach. Ferrera is no stranger to Belgian football, having been in charge of RWDM for a season or so a few years ago, as well as having spent time with the aforementioned Beveren, KV Mechelen, Standard Liege, Sint Truiden and Charleroi. Ferrera also has experience abroad, having spent a few seasons with Al Fateh FC, a short spell in Cyprus with Omonia Nicosia and just a handful of months with Al Riyadh. His most recent role was with Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, where he was head coach for a few months last year.
Ferrera, if appointed, would be in charge of a Dender side that are bottom of the table and have won just three of their 26 games this season. The gap to safety is 12 points, an insurmountable number. The main focus of Ferrera will be to catch RAAL, who sit just above them with 25 points in 26 games.
