Rumours have been circulating that Anderlecht could be willing to let Yari Verschaeren leave in January. Many hinted it would be a loan, but such a move would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. However, the 23-year-old has struggled with injuries and as such has not yet lived up to the expectations that were placed on him at a young age. Following his first goal of the season at the weekend, Anderlecht head coach David Hubert was keen to let the decision makers know his feelings.
As reported by Voetbalkrant, the head coach said that he hoped Verschaeren would be around for the rest of the season. Hubert said ‘We have a busy schedule and are struggling with seven injuries, which only confirms my position. We need everyone, including Yari’. Since making his debut during the 2018/2019 season, Verschaeren appeared to be just the latest player to come out of the Brussels club to go onto great things.
His best season came during the 2021/2022 season where he played 45 games, scoring nine goals and grabbing six assists. He followed this up with four and four in 42 but only managed 21 games last season due to injury. He has played 25 times this season, but not many of those have been starts and with juts one goal and three assists, he is yet to really return to previous form.
Whether or not Hubert has any say in the midfielder remaining will be seen in what decision is made regarding his future by the end of the winter transfer window.
