Danny Blind ‘pulling the strings’ at Ajax

Danny Blind is reportedly “pulling the strings” from afar at Ajax, determining the technical policy of the club.

Blind was previously on the supervisory board at the club but stepped down when he became Louis van Gaal’s assistant for Oranje last year.

However, according to Valentijn Driessen of De Telegraaf, while he may not have an official position, the father of Daley is running things from afar, effectively being their technical director in all but name.

“Meanwhile, who remains completely out of the picture, but pulls the strings at Ajax like a puppet master – without taking responsibility – is Danny Blind,” he said in his column.

“Without a technical director and because Van der Sar did not show himself, the [board] gladly gave Blind all the space he needed to step into the technical power vacuum.

“With no official position, he talks about everything, is involved in every decision and, according to insiders, determines technical policy.”

There has been talk that Blind will officially be appointed the new technical director after the World Cup, but Driessen says it’s possible the former player will remain in the shadows.

“The suggestion that Blind will return as technical director is not immediately obvious. There is nothing like calling the shots from the side without having a microphone shoved under your nose every week,” he wrote.
