Daley Blind completes shock transfer to Bayern Munich

Former Ajax defender Daley Blind has signed a short-term deal with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, the club confirmed.

Blind, who was released early from his contract during from the Amsterdam-club, completed the shock January transfer despite being heavily linked with Royal Antwerp.

It was thought that the 32-year-old would join up with Marc Overmas and Mark van Bommel at the Belgian Pro League club with the club making it no secret to sign the former Manchester United player after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Ajax academy graduate said he is relishing the challenge of playing for the club and admitted the club’s determination to win trophies played a big part in the Dutch international’s decision.

He said: I can hardly wait to play here. We’ve got the most important part of the season coming up, where it’s about titles – and a club like Bayern can win every trophy.

“The hunger for titles here at the club was key in my decision. I hope I can bring my experience to help the team. I’ll give everything for Bayern Munich.”

Julian Nagelsmann’s side will not restart their Bundesliga season in two weeks’ time when they travel to face RB Leipzig.
