Coventry City have completed the signing of Tatsuhiro Sakamoto from KV Oostende. The Japanese international joins the Championship club for an undisclosed fee. Last season Sakamoto was a shining light for Oostende, who were relegated from the Belgian Pro League. The 26-year-old left-midfielder provided seven assists in 32 appearances for the club.Â
Sakamoto kicked off his career in the Japanese second tier with Montedio Yamagata, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 44 appearances. In 2020 Sakamoto signed for Cerezo Osaka, where he continued to excel. The Tokyo-born midfielder has spent the last season and a half with Oostende, initially playing on loan, before joining permanently. He’s also represented Japan on two occasions.Â
Tatsuhiro Sakamoto has signed a three-year deal with Coventry, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season. Mark Robins’ side progressed to the Championship playoff final before losing on penalties to Luton Town. With the addition of Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Coventry will have even more creativity in the squad heading into the new campaign.
