Columbus Crew looking to sign Belgian Pro League’s leading chance creator

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Columbus Crew are in talks with Sint-Truiden over the transfer of Jarne Steuckers. The 21-year-old has a clause in his contract that the MLS side want to trigger in order to bring the player across the Atlantic. Steuckers is having a breakout season for the Canaries this year, playing in 13 games with one goal and three assists. However, he is also the leading chance creator in the Belgian top flight, with 44 this season according to FotMob. Losing Steuckers would be a big blow to a Sint-Truiden side that does not have much depth.

The early relegation candidates have played above expectations under German head coach Thorsten Fink. They side eight int he league, with 18 points from 14 games. This is just two points behind Club Brugge, who spent more on one player this summer than Sint-Truiden did to reinvigorate their entire squad. Fink has lent heavily on youth, with a number of academy players like Steuckers being given the opportunity to shine.
