Colombian international Eder Balanta set to exit Club Brugge and join Schalke 04

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Eder Balanta is set to join Schalke 04 before the transfer window closes. The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has only played 13 matches this season, with most of those coming off the bench. The former River Plate and FC Basel midfielder joined Club Brugge from the Swiss side in 2019 for around €2.40m.

Balanta has won three titles with Club Brugge, while in Switzerland he won the league once and cup twice. For River Plate he won a number of trophies, including the Copa Sudamerica, Cope Libertadores and Argentinian league. He will now be swapping a title defence in Belgium for a relegation scrap in Germany.

In terms of incomings, Club Brugge are not reportedly looking to bring in any new players, Club Brugge have already seen a number of departures, with Arne Engels joining Augsburg, former captain Ruud Vormer going to Zulte Waregem, and Noah Mbamba is joining Bayer Leverkusen. Eduard Sobol is also leaving the club for France and Strasbourg.
