Cody Gakpo turns down Leeds to remain at PSV

Cody Gakpo has turned down the chance to join Leeds and has decided to remain at PSV instead.

The Dutch winger has been subject to interest from a number of English clubs all summer and heading into the final day of the transfer window, Leeds and Southampton were working hard to secure his signature.

Last night, it was widely believed that he wanted to leave to play in the Premier League and that PSV would let him go if they were offered a reasonable amount.

Leeds made such an offer, said to amount to €45m, and Gakpo was scheduled to fly to the city this morning to finalize the deal.

However, as first reported by Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, he had a last-minute change of heart and didn’t board it, choosing to stay at PSV.

It’s an enormous boost for the Dutch club, who also look to have warded off interest from Chelsea in Ibrahim Sangare.
