Cody Gakpo leaning towards staying at PSV until the end of the season

Cody Gakpo believes “it would probably be better” to stay at PSV until the end of the season rather than leave in January.

The Dutchman almost left his current club in the summer but ultimately opted to stay put rather than join Leeds or Southampton after Manchester United withdrew their interest.

Given how well he’s started the current season, it’s likely that a number of sides will be trying to sign him again in January, especially if he has a good World Cup.

However, he thinks it would be better for him to see out the campaign with PSV and leave in the summer instead.

“It’s eight games left until the World Cup so I want to get in the squad. After that, anything can happen but it would probably be better to finish this season now where I started,” he told the Times.

He says he’s happy where is right now, but does intend to move to the Premier League in the future if he gets the chance to.

“I always said if I stay here, it’s my childhood club. It’s not a punishment,” he said.

“I like being here, I want to win trophies here and do my best for the club. But if I got the chance to go to the Premier League or something, of course I would have to consider that option.”
