Club Brugge’s young Nigerian midfielder stepping up under Nicky Hayen

Over the last two games, Club Brugge’s Nigerian central midfielder Raphael Onyedika has been exceptional. Against Anderlecht he was the best player on the pitch, scoring two well taken goals but impressing with his overall play. He dominated in the central areas, breaking up the play and spraying passes around. The 22-year-old made 41 of his 50 attempted passes, scored with both his shots of the game and recovered the ball 12 times.

Oneydika then followed this up with another strong display against PAOK during the Europa Conference League quarter-final. Club won 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Hugo Vetlesen. His passing game was once again strong, with 53 of his 57 passes completed. He also won the penalty that was subsequently missed by Brentford bound striker Igor Thiago.

Under new head coach Nicky Hayen, Club have now put together back to back wins. Their 3-0 win over Anderlecht was impressive and opens up a slim chance of winning the title. They also take a 1-0 lead to Greece next week and have a great chance of making a European semi-final.
