Club Brugge want game against KV Mechelen replayed after VAR error

Club Brugge have lodged a formal complain with the Belgian Refereeing Department and are asking for the game against KV Mechelen replayed. The sides complaint comes after a goal from striker Thiago was wrongly ruled out for offside by VAR. This resulted in the game ending 0-0, with Club Brugge losing ground in the title race as a result.

However, while the VAR error was costly, Club Brugge will also have to look at some wayward shooting for the reasons they were not able to force a victory over a KV Mechelen side languishing near the bottom of the table. The blue and black half of Brugge manged 14 shots in total, but only two of these were on target. They also had 56% of the ball but had to settle for a point.

Club Brugge are now 14 points behind leaders Union St Gilloise and are only two points ahead of city rivals Cercle Brugge. They occupy sixth place, which is the final spot in the play-offs for the title. However, they will want to close the gap soon in order to have any chance of realistically fighting for another league trophy.
