Club Brugge in battle with Real Betis for PEC Zwolle’s young Irish defender

Marca is reporting that Club Brugge have joined Real Betis in pursuit of 20-year-old Irish defender Anselmo Garcia McNulty. The former Wolfsburg defender joined PEC Zwolle in the summer and has gone on to play 15 times for the side. The young talent never made a first team appearance for the Bundesliga side, instead spending the 2022/2023 season on loan at NAC Breda, where he played 38 times.

Club Brugge have been looking for another central defender during this transfer window, although the priority they placed on this position did appear to cool after a run of positive results. However, they appear to have real interest in signing McNulty from the Eredivisie side.

McNulty is eligible to play for both Spain and Ireland, with the latter having capped him at youth level. He initially joined the Dutch side on a short contract, with an option for that to be extended. His impressive performances saw him have his contract extended to 2026, with Wolfsburg also having included a sell on percentage in the summer transfer.
