Club Brugge finding form ahead of Champions League clash with Dortmund

After opening the season with three winless matches, Club Brugge have begun to turn things around. The side have won four on the bounce, conceding just one goal in that time. The defending champions are finding their feet but will certainly have to be on their best form when they host last seasons Champions League finalists Dortmund.

History is not on Club’s side ahead of Wednesday evenings match and the Jan Breydel. The sides have played four matches in the competition since 2018, with Club failing to score in any of them. the best result they managed was a 0-0 draw in November 2018. In the previous two matches in 2020, Dortmund won 3-0 at home and away.

Hans Vanaken remains a key player for the side this season, as he was during the matches in 2020. The mercurial midfielder grabbed his 100th league goal for the side in a 3-0 win over Kortrijk. He is supported by Danish international Andreas Skov Olsen, who leads the side with three goals this campaign.

In defence, Maxim De Cuyper could provide a threat going forward as well. The full back was a standout performer for the side last season and is knocking on the door of international football for the Belgian national team. He played over an hour during the sides recent win over Israel. De Cuyper provided the side with 10 assists during the title winning season of 2023/2024.

On paper, Dortmund should be the sides biggest test during the revamped Champions League. A strong start at home could really set them up for a successful European campaign.
