Club Brugge fans call for Carl Hoefkens to go in confrontation outside the Jan Breydal

As Carl Hoefkens left the Jan Breydal following the draw with OH Leuven, he was met by a group of angry Club Brugge calling for him to depart the club. Club followed up their 4-1 humiliation at home to Sint-Truiden in the cup by allowing OH Leuven to grab a late equaliser to increase the pressure on Hoefkens.

Speaking after the game, Hoefkens was realistic on his chances of remaining at the side for the future. As reported by HLN, Hoefkens said “My fate is in the hands of other people. That’s the hard thing about being a coach, but normal in today’s football world”.

Following the dissapointing defeat to Sint-Truiden in the cup, there was a meeting between the board and Hoefkens to decide on whether a change in leadership would be required. It was reported that the players were keen to see Hoefkens remain at the club, yet it now feels a matter of when not if Hoefkens will be relieved of his duties. Club’s next game will be against Genk who suffered a shock defeat to relegation threatened Kortrijk on Boxing Day.
