Club Brugge eyeing up Schalke 04 head coach as replacement for Ronny Deila

Club Brugge are yet again looking for a new head coach at the end of the season. Last year, after a terrible run of form under Scott Parker that lasted a few months, the side put Rik De Mil in temporary charge and settled on Ronny Deila to come in the following season. Fast forward a year, Deila is out, Nicky Hayen is in temporary charge and the club are on the hunt for someone to lead them during the 2024/2025 season.

According to Het Nieuwsblad journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen, one name on the list is Karel Geraerts, who is currently in charge of Bundesliga 2 side Schalke 04. During his time with Union St Gilloise in Belgium, Geraerts came close to winning the title and oversaw a successful European campaign in the Europa League. Geraerts is currently trying to keep Schalke in the second tier of Belgian football and has won seven, drawn two and lost eight games. the side currently sit in 14th place and recently lost 5-2 away to Hertha Berlin. They remain just two points above the relegation play-off place, three away from automatic relegation.

During his time in Belgium however, the head coach averaged 2.04 points per game. While he is in consideration, there is no rush on Clubs part to bring him in prior to the end of the season.
