Club Brugge closing in on deal for Estudiantes defender

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Club Brugge are closing in on their second signing for the 2024/2025 season. The paper is claiming that Club have been in discussions with Zaid Romero, the 24-year-old left-footed central defender from Argentina. The defender is said to be interested in swapping Argentina for Belgium, with Club in discussions over a deal that could be in the region of €5.5-6m.

The Argentina defender came through at Godoy Cruz, will loan spells at Villa Dalmine and in Ecuador LDU Quito. He signed for Estuadiantes in January 2023.

Romero would join a club that is still working out who their head coach will be next season. Nicky Hayen has put himself in with a chance of landing the job after doing well as caretaker in recent weeks. Club Brugge are also expected to appoint a technical director in the near future as well. However, neither of these potential vacancies have stopped the side form being proactive ahead of the summer transfer window.
