City Group’s Lommel inflict first defeat on Dirk Kuyt’s Beerschot as gap to top two closes

Lommel gave Dirk Kuyt his first taste of defeat since taking over as head coach of Beerschot. The former Liverpool legend has been in charge for four games, winning two and drawing one. The league leaders came unstuck away against Lommel as the home side won 3-0 with goals from Juho Talvitie, Dermane Karim and Zalan Vancsa.

For Lommel, who are part of the City Group, they have now closed the gap to the top two to just three points. All sides in the Challenger Pro League haven now caught up on games in hand, with Beerschot on top with 39 points. Lommel sit alongside Patro Eisden and FCV Dender in the play-off spots on 35.

Since returning from the winter break, Steve Bould’s Lommel side have been in fine form. They have won four of their three games, with their only non-win being a 2-2 draw with Dender. The side were denied all three points by a late Bruny Nsimba goal.
