Chelsea have submitted a bid of €50m for Ajax’s Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez, who is insisting he is allowed join the Premier League side.
Alvarez has bene subject to interest from England for the past few weeks, but it has been Newcastle who have been looking to sign him, to no avail with Ajax not willing to let him leave.
He hasn’t pushed the club to let him go either, but that’s now changed with Chelsea submitting a bid and the player asking the Eredivisie champions to accept it, say De Telegraaf.
Ajax have yet to do so and remain adamant that he’s not for sell, but they said the same thing about Antony before he successfully forced his way out of the club.
Nevertheless, it’s unlikely that the bid will be accepted given they’d have no time to find a replacement with the Dutch transfer window closing this evening.
A potential sale is made slightly more feasible by the fact that Florian Grillitsch is being signed, but would still be a big shock.
