Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen replaces injured Steven Berghuis in the Netherlands national team

Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman has handed Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen a call-up to the senior squad following the loss of Steven Berghuis due to injury. Maatsen has featured six times for Chelsea this season, and now the 21-year-old could feature in his first senior international match. The Netherlands face France and Greece over the next two weeks in Euro Qualifiers.

Ronald Koeman’s injury list has been piling up over the past few weeks. Several players are absent for the international matches including Sven Botman, Cody Gakpo, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt. PSV’s Noa Lang also picked up an injury on Sunday.

Koeman has called up Feyenoord’s Calvin Stengs and has now added Ian Maatsen to the selection in the absence of Steven Berghuis. The Ajax midfielder picked up a calf injury. Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken has also been ruled out of the games against France and Greece due to illness. There are also question marks surrounding the availability of Teun Koopmeiners. It could be a tough couple of weeks for Ronald Koeman.
