Chaos in Cameroonian football: Marc Brys caught up in power struggle between Fécafoot and the government

It has certainly been an eventful few weeks for Marc Brys. He was announced as the new head coach for the Cameroonian national team by the countries Sports Minister, with the Cameroonian football association, known as Fécafoot, completely unaware. Despite the tension between the two, Brys was able to name his first squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in the summer.

Yesterday, Fécafoot released a statement that said that former OH Leuven head coach Brys and all his staff had been suspended. The association said that the decision to hire Brys in the first place was in violation of all legal and regulatory provisions. Fécafoot has also decided to refer the situation to FIFA to help support their case.

In the past, government interference in football has not been taken lightly by FIFA. On the African continent there have been a few sides banned because of too much interference in the football associations from the state. The situation is still fluid and it is unclear to everyone who will be in charge of Cameroon for the upcoming fixtures.
