Cercle Brugge’s Kevin Denkey in advanced talks with MLS club

Het Nieuwsblad re reporting that Kevin Denkey is in advanced talks with a club from the MLS. The Togolese striker was absent from Cercle Brugge’s 5-0 defeat at home to Anderlecht on Sunday while talks were ongoing. It appears that FC Cincinnati may well be the destination, with figures around €15m being mentioned.

Many expected that the top scorer from the Pro League last season would end up in one of the major European leagues, so it is quite a surprise that the MLS appears to be where he will end up. There were interested clubs within Europe during the summer, but no agreement was reached with any of the interested parties.

Denkey scored 28 goals in 39 games for the side last season as he fired them to European football. After a slow start this season he has found form in recent weeks. In 23 games across European and domestic competitions, the striker has scored 11 goals and grabbed five assists.

Cercle will certainly need to do some business in the January transfer window in order to replace the departing forward.
