Cercle Brugge’s long awaited European adventure is set to continue this evening when they welcome Swiss side St Gallen to the Jan Breydel. Despite an indifferent start to the domestic season, the side have been looking forward to their European campaign in this season Conference League and will hope to get off to a good start.
Cercle come into the game off the back of a win and a draw. The latter could have been more, yet they conceded late on at home to Sint Truiden. The young side will be without captain Thibo Somers who went off injured at the weekend. That will certainly be a blow, but they do at least have Kevin Denkey in good form. The Togolese striker took some time to get going but now has three goals in his last two. His form will be crucial for them if they want to have a successful European season.
St Gallen have had a decent start to their Super League season. The side have won four, drawn one and lost three of their opening eight games. They have scored 16 goals and conceded 10. Former Genk man Bastien Toma has been in good form, grabbing three assists. Midfielder Christian Witzig has also been performing well this season, with three assists and two goals. The side come into this game following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Yverdon. St Gallen dominated the game but could not finish their chances. They will be hoping this does not happen again in Brugge.
