Cercle Brugge sign French U20 international Jordan Semedo Varela on loan from Monaco

Cercle Brugge have announced the signing of Jordan Semedo Varela from Monaco for the 2023/2024 season. The France U20 international makes the move from the Principality to their sister side Cercle and will get a chance in the first team this season. The left-back has taken the number 77 shirt. He was part of the France side that competed in the recent U20 World Cup and was a regular starter. Varela has been with Monaco since 2017.

Given their close relationship, it is unlikely that 20-year-old Varela will be the only player exchanging Monaco for Brugge this summer. Every year there are a handful of youngsters who make the trip to Cercle to gain valuable first team experience. There are also players that go the other way, with many expecting that young central defender Jesper Daland will be the next player developed by Cercle to join Monaco. The Norwegian U21 international spent the winter training with Monaco and even featured in a handful of friendlies.
