Cercle Brugge have confirmed that striker Felipo Augusto has left the club to join Turkish side Trabzonspor. The 21-year-old was signed from Brazilian side Corinthians a few seasons ago for €3m now leaves Belgium for €6m. This comes despite the striker never fully realising his potential in Belgium, but Cercle can hardly complain as they have somehow made a decent profit on the Brazilian.
After two goals in 29 games for Corinthians, Augusto left Brazil to move to Belgium with Cercle Brugge. The teenager was set to play as a back-up to start striker Kevin Denkey, with Augusto playing 18 games, scoring twice and grabbing one assist. With Denkey leaving during the 2024/2025 campaign, Augusto was then able to step into a starting role. In the league, he only managed four goals in 33 games, with a decent five assists. It was hard to pin down his best role, either as an out and out striker, out wide or behind another striker. In European football he scored three goals in 10 Conference League games, giving him a final season tally of seven goals in 48 games.
Trabzonspor have clearly seen something from Augosto’s time at Cercle Brugge that they like. Perhaps they believe that they can improve his chance conversion, with the striker underperforming his xG of 8.49 by some margin domestically. Hopefully, Augusto can really begin to realise his potential over the next few seasons with Trabzonspor.
