Carl Hoefkens remains as Club Brugge manager despite crisis meeting following cup humiliation

As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Club Brugge will be sticking with head coach Carl Hoefkens for the time being. Following their 4-1 humiliation at the hands of Sint-Truiden in the Cup, the club held crisis talks with Hoefkens. As reported by HNB, the majority of players want Hoefkens to remain in post despite the poor cup result.

Club Brugge under Hoefkens have performed well in the Champions League, making the knock-out stages and being just the second Belgian side to do so in the UCL era. Benfica will be their opponents in the next round.

However, domestically the side has struggled. They are 10 points behind league leaders Genk and are now out of the cup. Club put out a strong side against Sint-Truiden, but were unable to find a way to the quarter-finals as the Canaries put four past them.

Club will play OH Leuven on Boxing Day, before a clash with table topping Genk on the 8th of January. It is likely that Hoefkens will need a positive result against OHL if he is to remain in charge for the game with Genk.
