Carl Hoefkens explains the absence of record signing Roman Yaremchuk

Despite being signed for 16 million euros from Benfica in the summer, Roman Yaremchuk has struggled to break into the starting line up at Club Brugge. The Ukrainian did not even make the squad for the recent 4-2 victory over KV Oostende. When asked about the omission of the clubs record signing, Voetbalkrant reports that Hoefkens stated “At the moment we differ on the interpretation of the striker position. I want to see more drive and enthusiasm and at the moment we are not on the same wavelength. But that will certainly be sorted out in the future. There is no structural problem”.

Yaremchuk has scored two and provided two assists since he moved from Portugal in the summer. Prior to joining Benfica, Yaremchuk scored 23 goals and provided 8 assists in all competitions for Gent. He struggled to replicate that form in Portugal, where he only managed 9 goals and 6 assists in 43 appearances.

Club Brugge face Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night in their final Champions League group stage fixture. The Belgian side have already qualified for the next round, but could win the group with a positive result depending on how Porto do against Atletico Madrid.
