Carl Hoefkens doesn’t think Club Brugge’s 4-0 win over Porto was their best match of the season

Carl Hoefkens doesn’t think that Club Brugge’s 4-0 win over Porto was their best match since he took charge at the start of the season.

It was a dream European night for the Belgian side as, away from home, they put four past the Portuguese champions without reply to go three points clear at the top of their Champions League.

They became the first Belgian team ever to win their first two matches in the competition and now have an excellent chance of reaching the knockout stages.

Nevertheless, Hoefkens thinks the 3-0 win against Leuven earlier this season was a better win for his side as it was the first time they clicked under him.

“Where do I place this match? Below the victory in Leuven,” he said after the match.

“Because that victory was very important for belief, but also because at that time I still had questions about whether we could carry out these tactical things.

“There, in Leuven, the confirmation came.”
