Carl Hoefkens “convinced” Club Brugge can get good result against Bayer Leverkusen

Club Brugge manager Carl Hoefkens is “convinced” that the Pro League champions can get a good result against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Belgian side have been drawn in a Champions League group with Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Porto, and host the German team in their opening match.

It’s a good time to play Leverkusen, who are 14th in the Bundesliga after five games having lost four of them, with defeats to Freiburg and Augsburg, in particular, being poor results.

Club Brugge on the other hand enter the match in excellent form with the side winning each of their last four matches in the Pro League.

Indeed, Hoefkens is feeling confident that they can get a good result, despite a number of players being injured.

“I am convinced that we can achieve a good result,” he said.

“The result of the first game is never decisive, but you do know that you can make a very positive start, even if it is only mentally.”

That being said, he still thinks Leverkusen are a top side, despite their poor form.

“Maybe the confidence in their team is not great, but when you see what they did with this team last year, you have to say: it’s just a very quality team,” he stated.
