Cardiff City striker’s third goal in six games gives Kortrijk shock win over title chasing Anderlecht

Anderlecht’s long unbeaten run came to a surprising end with a 1-0 defeat at home to relegation threatened Kortrijk. On loan Cardiff City striker Isaak Davies was once again the hero for the side, grabbing his eight goal of the season in a 1-0 win at Lotto Park. The win ensures that the relegation play-offs will be tightly contested, with Eupen and Kortrijk level on 24 points.

For Anderlecht, it means that they failed to put extra pressure on Union St Gilloise at the top of the table. Prior to the league leaders clash with Antwerp, the gap between the two sides is six points, although this will reduce once the play-offs start and the points are halved. Having had 57% of the ball and 17 attempts, Brian Riemer’s side will be frustrated that they were not able to be more efficient in front of goal.

In the end a rare mistake from young defender Zeno Debast gifted Davies the chance with 78 minutes gone. The on loan forward finished well beyond Kasper Schmeichel to give Kortrijk momentum going into the play-offs.
