Can anyone stop Kevin Denkey’s march towards the golden boot?

Kevin Denkey has had an incredible season. The young Togolese striker has scored an impressive 25 league goals this season and sits top of the scorers charts in Belgium. With the Cercle Brugge striker likely to be off in the summer, the side are hoping that he can continue his fine form as they search for European football to end the season as a parting gift.

Just a few weeks ago, it looked like there would be a much closer race to finish top of the scoring charts in Belgium. Both Mohamed Amoura of Union St Gilloise and Thiago of Club Brugge looked to be putting Denkey under pressure. However, both are now experiencing goal droughts. Thiago has not scored since his move to Brentford was announced in February, while Amoura is also on a domestic goal drought, having not scored since the sides cup win on the 28th of February. Thiago has 16 goals while Amoura has 17. Anders Dreyer of Anderlecht also has 16, but he too has only scored twice in his last eight games.

As a result, it looks like Denkey is set to seal the scoring title comfortably, and could probably do so without scoring again this season. It seems unlikely that this will happen given the players form and desire to have success with Cercle. Since joining the side in 2021 from Nimes, he has scored 49 goals in 117 games.
