Cameron Puertas grabs a brace to reignite Union St Gilloise’s title challenge

Swiss midfielder Cameron Puertas grabbed two goals to help Union St Gilloise to their first win of this years play-offs. The Brussels side, who had led the league for most of the season, beat Antwerp 3-0 away from home. They close the gap to Club Brugge in second to just one point, and the gap to Anderlecht in first is now just two points. Union had lost all four of their opening play-off games and looked set to miss out on the league title.

Puertas scored a sublime free kick to open the scoring early in the second half. Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura than ended his two and a bit month goal drought to make it 2-0 just under 10 minutes later. With time running down, Puertas grabbed his second of the game. The 25-year-old central midfielder has been the sides star player this season, scoring 12 goals and grabbing 15 assists this season.

Union face Antwerp in the return fixture in Brussels at the weekend.
