Burnley turn to Jean Butez after missing out on Bart Verbruggen to Brighton

HBVL are reporting that Burnley could turn their attention to Antwerp’s goalkeeper Jean Butez after missing out on Bart Verbruggen. The Dutch goalkeeper looks set to join Brighton instead of Vincent Kompany’s side. The former Anderlecht head coach has been trying to sign the talented young shot stopper since last summer, but it appears that Brighton have won the race.

Butez was part of the best defence in the Belgian league this season, with his side Antwerp winning the league on the final day with a late Toby Alderweireld equaliser against Genk. the 28-year-old French keeper began his career with Lille before joining their partner club Mouscron in Belgium on loan in 2017. After impressing, he made the move permanently in the summer of 2018. Two years later, Antwerp paid the now defunct side €1m to acquire the goalkeeper.

This season, Butez kept 20 clean sheets in 40 league matches.
