Burnley and Antwerp interested in Bosnian international Gojko Cimirot

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Burnely and Antwerp are interested in Standard Liege’s Bosnian international Gojko Cimirot. The 30-year-old central midfielder has been offered a new three year deal by Standard, but the salary is lower than he is currently earning.

Cimirot joined Standard back in January 2018 for around €2.50m from Greek side PAOK. The central midfielder is closing in on 200 appearances for the club in those five years, with 198 games and two goals for Standard. Even if he does decide to leave, with three games left in the play-offs he should reach that landmark.

It is unlikely that he will turn down the chance of European football with Antwerp or Premier League football with Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. Cimirot is also not likely to be the only one leaving Standard at the end of this season, with captain Noe Dussenne expected to leave, while fellow central defender Konstantinos Laifis has also spoken of moving on in the summer.
